Plan your visitOur story
Saved by the community. Run for the community.
Springwell Lido opened in 1936 as part of a national push for public outdoor bathing facilities. After decades of municipal ownership — and a narrow escape from closure in 2008 — the lido was taken over by a community trust in 2011.
Today it's entirely volunteer-led, with more than 400 members and thousands of casual visitors every season. The water is unheated, the sky is your ceiling, and the tea in the café kiosk is always strong.
We welcome swimmers of all abilities, from early-morning lane regulars to families wading in on a warm Saturday afternoon. The lido belongs to everyone.
